The Immigrant's Memory
Anchor
Happy 21st Birthday to CcMixter!
I was happy to be assigned Radio-man for this secret-mixter event.
My title ‘The Immigrant’s Memory’ is an interpretation of his lyric ‘The Friday Fish’. This piece was already about childhood memories, so it was easy for me to overlay into the context of an unknown Immigrant recalling days long ago as a child in a country where he was not born. The backing music is borrowed from his upload ‘Dunes of Anglesey’ and the plaintive saxophone samples from ‘Old Dog Sax’. I thought the sax finale added a pensive and longing mood which leads out of the poignant theme of this remix.
ps: couldn’t find my other two file sources in the Edit Remix Sources.
Lyrics:
Oh theres no change in the weather
They’ve forecast rain again
At least the school has closed for summer
And my mother and I are on the road again
We’re travelling down to the big city
Where Roman baths can still be seen
In her purse the moneys jingling
Holding possibilities of ice cream
At McFisheries counter you bought haddock by the pound
I wanted salmon, cod or scampi but you said
That money don’t come around
And could you love me better
If I was better at being me
A guiding hand around my shoulder
Pointing me towards my destiny
And all the numerous wives and lovers
And the ones that got away
They are waiting in the future
While I still have the time to play
Oh theres no change in the weather
They’ve forecast rain again
I’m sitting at the back of the bus
In my corduroy pants
With a bag of sweets for my pain.
